We have a whole new way of living and a new term to get our head’s around, that’s what!
Frame’s experimental exhibition during Milan Furniture Week was one that looked to question the introduction of a new phase in design, and with it living, that they describe as the Phygital World . They posed the question: What’s the Matter?, with an array of digitally inspired and in many cases, powered works offering some speculative, some intangible and some very real answers to the question.
The concept behind the show stems from a desire to explore the effects of the ever-developing digital technologies that we find ourselves surrounded by upon contemporary design. More specifically, the curators were interested in examining the cross-pollination between digital services and physical objects, hence the term Phygital .
Citing the phenomenon of online purchasing and in store pick-up and virtual fitting rooms in retail spaces, as well as the more obvious screen-led endeavours of modern day-to-day living as legitimate precursors, the organisers looked to find further examples to prove their argument that in the future ‘everything around us will be Phygital'.
Here’s a quick round-up of some of the more material and surface-led exhibitors that caught our eye and imagination:
We'll be sharing a load more posts documenting the pieces that can only really be fully appreciated in person or video format in the coming week. For more information visit the Frame website.
