Touchy feely

The spaces we inhabit are full of tactility. All materials carry their own unique texture and can offer a broad variety of haptic experiences for those who come into contact with them. You can learn a lot from a material by its touch. A space, product, piece of furniture or garment can be a success or failure depending upon it’s sense of touch to the prospective end user.

We love getting hands on with materials and surfaces here at Material Lab — a compulsion which designer Bori Kovacs shares. His project Please Do Touch is focused on drawing upon our haptic senses and heightening our sense of touch sensation. Utilising machine knit, tufting, flocking and moulding techniques, amongst others, Kovacs has created a selection of White (so as to not draw attention away through colour) soft materials that are rich is texture and useable for an array of applications.
