Time Included Cloth

05.12.2016

It has been said that we live in a disposable age, where we make and throw away more consumables than ever. Textiles are no exception – we all get through our fair share of clothing as well as changing our interior soft furnishing from time to time, not least because of wear and tear.

Designer Cox Janssens seeks to readdress the balance by pre-programming her textiles collection to engage in the processes of change and to celebrate them through the visual representation of time and use. By drawing upon, both literally and figuratively, the changeable properties of human skin, Janssens has made four designs that actively alter with each wash, rub and time spent in the sun. As they are used, new pattern, colouration and character is revealed and with it a sense of genuine ownership; a visual register of time well spent.
