In early autumn we shared Dulux Trade’s Colour of the Year for 2018. Heart Wood, a warm neutral with a hint of heather, is the lead colour in a palette of associated hues that offer versatility and balance, with softer tones working alongside bold inky shades of blue and purple.
Colour of the Year is one segment of the wider trend forecast ColourFuturesTM, which assesses emerging trends and identifies how they impact the way we live. The forecast for 2018 culminated in four trend predications, all of which have aspirational colour schemes to suit them and that can be applied to both residential and commercial projects.
As with Colour of the Year, The Playful Space offers a trend to remedy times of great uncertainty and instability. Indeed, as with all the trends, it seeks to create daily environments that become places of calm, where the noise can be turned down and values can be nurtured. However, this trend draws Heart Wood into sunny and warmer territory with pops of fresh colour.
There is a sense of energy and fun with this trend, although still a feeling of calm. Yellow toned greens and golden shades are inspired by nature and naturally fire the synapses and inspire creativity, making it an ideal palette for education settings. To add to this, buttery cream sits alongside clean and fresh hues that ease tension and improve concentration.
As with all of the trends, the Heart Wood shade is present and adds a subtle floral undercurrent. With strong connections to nature; the great outdoors, enormous pine forests and expanses of meadowland, it has an optimistic tone. It’s full of life and has an air of spring's ever invigorating power. Something we all need right about now!
