Our Making exhibition here at Material Lab is in full flow, offering a unique insight into the processes behind the products from some of the UK and Europe’s most exciting designers.
But visitors to our special one-off Live Making event yesterday (18 th September) were able to get up close and personal with six inspiring creatives, watching them design and make products live and in-situ (props to O’Hara’s Spiced Rum too for quenching the thirst of our guests...).
Staged as part of The London Design Festival 2014, Live Making saw demonstrations taking place during the afternoon and then throughout the evening, as people from far and wide descended on the studio to see Giles Miller Studio, Daniel Heath, Gemma Kay Waggett, Candida Wigan’s Tex-Tile, Dome Studio and Troels Flensted.
We redesigned the studio using the ever adapable building material that is OSB to give each of the designers their own mini workshop space creating a genuine home from home, or studio from studio vibe.
But if you didn’t make it down to meet the makers, you can still get a behind-the-scenes view on how they work. These six video interviews take you into the creative worlds of the designers. Check out the image gallery below to re-live the thrils and spills of Live Making.
You can also view more images on our Facebook page here , or visit our Vimeo channel to watch all six videos.
The full Making exhibition runs until 26 September as part of The West End Design Quarter. More details here.
