In celebration of Zaha Hadid: 1950 - 2016

01.04.2016

After hearing about the passing of award-winning architect Dame Zaha Hadid on 31 March, we stood alongside the A&D community in shock and sadness. A true icon, Hadid constantly pushed boundaries to redefine contemporary architecture.

Last year, Hadid was the first woman to be awarded the Royal Institute of British Architect's Royal Gold Medal for her work – proving further testament to her outstanding success in a male-dominated industry.

Born in Baghdad in 1950, Hadid moved to the UK in the 1970s to study at the Architectural Association in London. Since then, her work has become internationally renowned, and spans the corners of the globe – from her first major project the Vitra Fire Station in Weil am Rhein, to the Aquatics Centre in London, built for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Hadid’s distinctive style will certainly be missed, and her existing projects stand testament to her extensive talents.

Here we take a look at some of our favourite architectural and design projects by the late and great, Zaha Hadid.
