We were delighted to see the incredible contemporary knitwork of one of our material partners Fay McCaul take centre stage at this year's Collect exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery.
Fay was selected to create Curved Twist in collaboration with multi-disciplinary designer Kia Utzon-Frank , and the fruit of their labour (much labour) is a stunning interactive screen.
The shutter structure invitingly tempts the user to slide the cordless KUFtwist system, designed by Utzon-Frank, which results in an opening of the narrow slats, knitted by McCaul.
The hand knitted panels are made up of narrow pockets that house strips of dichroic acrylic. Even when static the screens appear to shimmer but the effect is heighted when the KUFtwist is slid and the reflective plastic moves in the light. Each new slide also creates a unique pattern in the overall surface allowing the user to adjust and play with the partitioning depending on their mood.
