Dulux Trade Partners with BRE and Oliver Heath on World First Biophilic Design Research Project

18.07.2017

Our partner Dulux Trade has recently joined forces with BRE to participate in a three-year research project looking at the effects of biophilic design on occupants of office spaces.

In conjunction with architect and interior designer Oliver Heath, the research will focus around a refurbishment project analysing the benefits of biophilic design on health, well-being and productivity in the workplace.

An office at BRE will be the focus of the research project, with a full analysis and documentation taking place to evaluate the office for daylight, lighting, indoor air quality, acoustic, thermal and humidity, comfort and colour. The office occupants will undergo a confidential health evaluation, sign up to a series of online questionnaires and surveys and receive wearable technology to monitor key health metrics. The project will carry out six months of pre-refurbishment and six months of post-refurbishment testing.

Duncan Lochhead, Commercial Sustainability Manager at AkzoNobel, parent company of Dulux Trade, comments: “We are pleased to be part of this research initiative as we believe that the BRE continues to offer projects that align with our strategic priorities. We welcome the fact that the research spans such a comprehensive range of products and areas of the built environment, which promises to make the research a robust piece of work."

To coincide with the project, BRE is hosting a webinar on Tuesday 18th July at 12:30pm. For more information and tickets, visit bre.ac/course/biophilic-office
