This week we’ve been at one of the most exciting events in the A&D calendar: ColourFutures 2016. An annual exhibition led by Dulux in partnership with AkzoNobel – this year held at London’s Somerset House.
It brings together a group of international experts and trend watchers from across the globe and from various disciplines of design – architecture, textiles, product design, graphics and research to forecast the upcoming social and design trends.
The highlight of the event is the announcement of the much-anticipated Colour of the Year, alongside installations from design studios, including Material Lab.
We are honoured to have designed the centrepiece celebrating the event’s theme of Looking Both Ways, which underpinned the entire exhibition.
"This year, we find ourselves at a unique crossroads in time. We are at a very interesting point where we can see the advantage both of tradition and also of modern innovation; where the importance of weighing up opposite opinions and views has never been stronger."
For 2016 the Colour of the Year was announced as Cherished Gold – "a colour that would connect with the overall trend of looking both ways, we noted that all the key trends for 2016 had an element of gold in them. We have selected a gold influenced ochre which is both bright enough to attract attention and combines well with other tones."
We also designed and curated materials for the stands circling the Colour of the Year centrepiece, covering the four key trends for 2016: Heritage and Future, Light and Dark, The Grid and Letting Go, and Words and Pictures.
