As our cities grow, demographics and social settings evolve, and political uncertainty and infighting become the norm, we tend to seek out a sense of belonging.
Being part of a group becomes more and more important to the individual, and the notion of community; networks and togetherness become increasingly intensified in our daily requirements.
This is an observation that was made by the Dulux colour team somewhere back in 2016, when devising their annual trend forecast, Colour Futures. It’s a theme that has rather pointedly come into being in 2017, and luckily they devised a colour palette for our living environments that exudes a playful spirit and invites inclusion from all.
The range of colours in Shared Individualism offers a light freshness that can be offset and lifted by pops of cheerful colour as well as allowing for light timber shades and black elements to be included in a space.
As Marianne Shillngford, Creative Director of Dulux, explains: “When combining some of the smoky neutrals in the palette with the sweeter warm shades, something magical happens.
"Use the strongest colours in blocks, circles and graphic patterns. Chalk in the circles and paint by hand rather than worry about getting the shapes perfect. The hand painted is much more authentic and appealing than crisp graphics in this very human centred trend.”
