We've waited patiently for the highly anticipated launch of Dulux and Dulux Trade's Colour Futures trend forecast, and the day has finally arrived with the unveiling of the 2017 Colour of the Year – and that's 'Denim Drift'.
The calming, atmospheric blue palette forms the overarching theme of 'Life in a New Light', alongside four key trends, which "celebrate a new outlook on the simple things that make life worth living".
From New Romanticism and Shared Individualism to The Working Home and Considered Luxury – the trends tap into a growing sentiment that we need to reconsider our digital lives and enjoy more authentic experiences, better connecting with people, nature and ourselves.
For the third year running, Material Lab was invited to produce a centrepiece at Dulux's Colour Futures exhibition – held this year at 33 Fitzroy Square in London. Paying homage to 'Denim Drift' and the four key trends, we picked out the latest materials and surfaces to design a central installation that brought Dulux's vision to life.
Dulux also presented four different room settings at the exhibition townhouse, all relating to the different themes. The clever use of colour, along with the complementary furniture and accessories, has more than established Dulux as a leading trend forecaster in the A&D community.
The insights into colour and human behaviour offer us great content to work with, and to be involved in the launch event is always exciting and highly insightful. Once again, we got under the skin of the trends and responded to them with materials that we felt activate the essence of each one, as well as offering tangible examples of mouth-watering colours for 2017.
