Also Adam is the brainchild of designer maker Samuel Sheard. The studio is passionate about colour, pattern and surface materials innovation, which is typified by the Skin and Charles Brown collections.
The latter was initially commissioned by our old friends Alma leather. Collecting up the leftover small off-cuts from the Alma workshop, Samuel then laser cuts them into geometric patterns. The pieces are then inlaid into the surface of a CNC cut piece of solid ash, one of Samuel’s favoured materials, to form a colourful marquetry inspired pattern.
Skin
Ash and pattern are combined in the Skin collection too. However this time a clever printing process is used to apply the block colour patterns, with every single surface seamlessly covered. As with the Charles Brown collection the natural qualities of the material are embraced and become a part of the design as the grain of the ash peeks through the gaps in the patterns to reveal it’s natural beauty underneath.
